Gospel artist Kambua has shared an emotional account of the loss of her son, Malachi, who passed away two days after birth due to complications. In a heartfelt revelation on her YouTube channel, Kambua recounted the painful journey of grief, healing, and acceptance following her son’s passing in 2021.
Malachi was Kambua’s secondborn, a pregnancy that came as a surprise during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike her first pregnancy with Nathaniel, where she was surrounded by loved ones, this journey was isolating. “It was the hardest of all my pregnancies,” she admitted. “I was sick from dawn to dusk, but I kept my eyes on the prize.”
However, the joy of welcoming a new life was soon replaced by immense sorrow. Malachi fought bravely under medical care, but in the end, as Kambua described, “Jesus healed him by taking him to Himself.” The reality of losing him was devastating. “No woman imagines going to the hospital to deliver and comes out empty-handed. I was broken in ways I could not articulate,” she shared.
The pain was compounded by the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which required them to bury Malachi within 72 hours. This meant that he was laid to rest on Valentine’s Day. “My body was ready to lactate, but there was no baby to breastfeed,” Kambua said, recalling the physical and emotional toll of the experience. She also suffered from postpartum complications, including severe constipation while recovering from a cesarean section.
Despite her grief, Kambua found strength in the support of other mothers who had experienced similar losses. Interacting with them helped her navigate the pain and realize that she was not alone. “I had so many plans for him, we were waiting for him,” she said. “For the two days we kept him, he fulfilled what he was supposed to.”
Today, Kambua continues to share her story to offer comfort to other grieving mothers. While parts of her loss remain painful to discuss, she has learned to be kind to herself and embrace the journey of healing.
