Kenyan comedian Henry Desagu has expressed immense gratitude after a group of politicians, artists, and businesspeople came together to raise Sh1 million to support him. The funds were handed to him during an event held at his mother’s home, marking a significant moment in his journey towards recovery.
Desagu, known for his witty skits and social commentary, has recently faced personal struggles, including depression and alcoholism. The fundraising initiative was spearheaded by Hon. Elijah Njoroge Kururia, who rallied a close circle of friends to support the comedian.
The Fundraising Event
During the event, Desagu acknowledged the overwhelming support, stating, “I have every reason to glorify God for a great event. Big blessing to have guests today at my parents’ home. God bless Hon. Elijah Njoroge Kururia and all the guests who came and supported me with prayers and financial support. Thanks for the Sh1 million support. May God open new doors for me and change my life for the better.”
Hon. Elijah Njoroge Kururia detailed how the contributions were collected, emphasizing that the primary drive involved close friends and associates. He also clarified that fans of Desagu could contribute directly through Karangu Muraya, the MC of the DESAGU LIVE session.

Desagu’s Journey to Recovery
In a recent church visit at JCC, Desagu thanked God for his healing and credited Bishop Ben Guka of Nairobi Muthee Kiengei for his prayers. He also acknowledged Mofarm JM for standing by him during his struggles.
Desagu has been open about his battle with depression, stating, “I’m the one who always tells you ‘Umbwedede’ on social media, but in reality, life had made me ‘umbwedede.’ I was sick with depression, but God is good. I went to the hospital and received treatment.”
