Mary Biketi recently opened up about a painful chapter in her life that followed the public exposure of her relationship with Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs, Wycliffe Oparanya. In an emotional conversation, she revealed that the leak not only brought intense scrutiny but also caused her to lose her unborn child due to the stress and pressure that followed.
According to Mary, she had been in a long-term relationship with Oparanya and was living with him at the time. Despite being together for a while, she had intentionally kept their relationship private. She explained that she never felt the need to share photos or details publicly because their bond was genuine, and she wasn’t seeking attention or validation. “If it weren’t for someone exposing the photos, people would have never known. I was staying with him, seeing him every day—there was no need to post anything,” she said.
When the photos eventually surfaced online, Mary chose to post one herself to show that she had nothing to hide. However, the sudden spotlight turned her life upside down. She revealed that she was five months pregnant at the time and, overwhelmed by the backlash and pressure, she suffered a miscarriage. “I didn’t see it coming. It was such a shock, and I was pregnant then. I lost the baby because of all the pressure. It was really bad,” she shared.
Despite the pain, Mary expressed gratitude to those who supported her during that difficult period. Her strength and openness in speaking about such a personal loss touched many, offering a glimpse into the emotional toll of public scrutiny.
Mary also reflected on the beginning of her relationship with Oparanya, recounting how they first met at Wilson Airport. They happened to be on the same flight, and she was initially star-struck when she saw him board. They shared a conversation while waiting for the plane to take off, which eventually led to a deeper connection.
She praised Oparanya as a responsible and present father, emphasizing that despite public perceptions and criticism regarding his relationships, he is a good man. Mary also acknowledged the existence of Oparanya’s other wives, saying she respects them and understands the dynamics involved.
Today, Mary remains focused on her businesses and philanthropic work. She pointed out that she has her own life and is perfectly capable of staying busy and fulfilled even when Oparanya is not around. Her story is a powerful reminder of the personal struggles that can lie behind the headlines and how resilience can grow through pain.
