Kenyan content creator and entrepreneur Murugi Munyi has shared her thoughts on family planning and the financial realities of parenting. Speaking on her podcast with co-host Lydia KM, Murugi revealed that she had once vowed to undergo tubal ligation if she had not had another child by the age of 35. However, she has yet to make a final decision, acknowledging the physical toll contraception has taken on her body.
Murugi, a mother of three, expressed frustration over the burden of birth control often falling solely on women. “The reality is that bearing the weight of contraception, the older I get, the more I feel the impacts,” she said. Despite considering the permanent procedure, she remains cautious about making a final decision, noting, “I want to wait until I am certain because the worst part would be regretting afterward.”
Beyond family planning, Murugi also reflected on the role of finances in motherhood. In a candid Instagram post, she discussed how her experience raising her firstborn son, whom she had at 19, was vastly different from raising her youngest daughter. She attributed this difference to financial stability, explaining that when parents are not constantly worried about basic needs, they can focus on creating joyful experiences for their children.
Her thoughts were sparked by a viral video featuring American content creator Tenicka Boyd, who was asked about the secret to good parenting and simply replied, “Money!” Murugi resonated with this sentiment, stating, “I definitely don’t think having money is the key to good motherhood, but it 100% makes it easier.”
While acknowledging that money does not eliminate all parenting challenges, she emphasized that financial security allows parents to navigate obstacles more effectively. “When you’re not worried about the basics, parenting feels easier, that’s for sure,” she concluded.
Murugi’s reflections shed light on the intersection of family planning, financial stability, and motherhood topics that many parents can relate to in their own journeys.
