Nairobi is set to host the highly anticipated East Africa Somali Awards 2025 on April 15, an event aimed at honoring outstanding individuals and businesses making significant contributions across various sectors. The awards, organized by Somali Magazine, seek to celebrate the resilience, success, and limitless potential of the Somali community in driving change and innovation.
According to Somali Magazine CEO Ridwan Yusuf, the initiative is about changing the prevailing narrative surrounding the Somali people. “For too long, the narrative surrounding Somalis has been dominated by challenges rather than achievements. Yet, across East Africa, Somali entrepreneurs, professionals, and businesses are thriving, innovating, and making significant contributions to the region’s economy and society,” Yusuf stated.
The awards will recognize excellence in diverse fields, from bustling marketplaces to technology-driven services, cutting-edge financial institutions, and world-class supermarkets. The goal is to shine a spotlight on those who have worked tirelessly to build and uplift their communities.
“This awards ceremony will highlight individuals and businesses that have demonstrated resilience, leadership, and innovation in their respective industries,” Yusuf added. He emphasized that beyond just handing out trophies, the awards aim to inspire the next generation, foster healthy competition, and encourage continuous growth.
“When businesses and individuals see that their efforts are being recognized, it motivates them to aim higher, innovate further, and give back to their communities,” he said. “Moreover, these awards help highlight role models within the Somali community. Young entrepreneurs and professionals need to see successful examples in their own communities—people who have risen above obstacles and built something meaningful.”
Nairobi was chosen as the host city due to its status as East Africa’s economic and diplomatic hub. The city is home to a vibrant Somali community that has played a pivotal role in business, trade, and investment across the region.
“By holding the awards in Nairobi, we reaffirm the central role of Somalis in East Africa’s progress and provide a space for networking, collaboration, and future growth,” Yusuf noted.
The nomination process for the East Africa Somali Awards 2025 is now open, providing an opportunity for individuals and businesses to be recognized for their outstanding contributions.
