Kenyan singer and actress Sanaipei Tande has revealed a set of firm boundaries regarding the roles she takes on screen. Speaking in an interview with Buzz Central, the former “Kina” actress stated that there are certain things she would never do while acting, regardless of the role.
Tande emphasized that she will not kiss on the lips, imply sexual scenes, participate in LGBTQ storylines, or do nudity. While acknowledging that acting is a profession, she firmly stated that these aspects cross her personal and professional limits.
“As much as it is acting, people become so engrossed in a character. Even if it is acting, some people will hate you for it. My personality does not allow me to. There are people who believe that is what they have to do to go ahead. For me, that is crossing the line,” she explained.
Currently starring in “Kash Money,” Sanaipei shared that the challenge of playing a socialite wife drew her to the show. She highlighted how difficult it was to play a character that speaks pure English, as her previous roles have been a mix of English and Kiswahili.
“I believe what drew me to it was because it was a role I’d never played before, so I wanted to see if I could pull off being a socialite wife. It was challenging because all the shows I’ve done were a mix of English and Kiswahili, and that really gets into your system. Having to do pure English was quite a task. Also, working with some of the cast that I’ve known personally for so long and keeping a straight face was tough,” she admitted.
Sanaipei’s acting career has seen her take on various roles, most notably in “Kina,” where she played Nana. In February 2023, she left the show, leading to speculation that she was quitting acting altogether. However, she clarified that her departure was due to exhaustion and the need for rest.
“I chose to leave due to exhaustion and consequently much-needed rest. Because of the nature of the show, it was necessary to find a replacement to allow for your continued entertainment,” she stated.
Sanaipei Tande remains one of Kenya’s most respected entertainers, balancing her music and acting career while staying true to her personal values.
