From her soulful hits like “Kwaheri” and “Chaguo la Moyo” to standout roles in “Aziza,” “Mali,” and “Kina,” she has consistently proven to be a dynamic force in the entertainment industry.
Rising to fame at just 19 after winning the Coca-Cola Pop Stars talent competition in 2004, her career has been filled with iconic moments. After taking a brief pause to focus on music, she has returned to the screen in Showmax’s gripping crime drama, “The Chocolate Empire,” portraying a struggling widow who crosses paths with JB, played by her former co-star Jimmy Gathu.
Reflecting on her journey spanning over two decades, she attributes her success to an unwavering commitment to excellence.
“When it comes to my career, one thing has always been my secret weapon: I give every opportunity 110%! Whether it’s radio, music, or acting, I don’t just show up—I ace it. That’s why people keep coming back and saying, ‘Oh, we need you for this!'”
Initially recognized as a musician, she soon found herself drawn into acting as well. “People would watch one of my music videos and say, ‘You’d make a great actress!’ That’s how I found myself in acting. I embrace versatility, and that has opened doors to opportunities I never imagined.”
Beyond acting and music, she also made a name for herself hosting R&B nights. “It started at a club called Replay, and before I knew it, R&B became my thing. From Kitale to the Coast, I was getting calls to perform—not even my own songs, but hits from icons like Beyoncé and Rihanna. And people loved it!”
Despite her many achievements, she maintains a humble and ambitious outlook. “I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, but I also know the sky’s the limit. I keep pushing myself to grow and embrace new opportunities because life is about evolving.”
The past few months have been especially busy, with roles in “2 Asunder,” “Kash Money,” and now “The Chocolate Empire.” Discussing these projects, she describes the experience as refreshing. “Filming ‘Kina’ was intense, with 15 to 16 scenes a day. But with these newer projects, it felt more relaxed. The directors were incredibly patient and supportive, making the experience smooth and enjoyable.”
This marks the second collaboration with the production team led by Phil Bresson. “We wrapped up filming ‘Kash Money’ in early 2024, which was my first time working with Phillip and Grace. They later invited me to screen test for two roles—Marie and Margaret. Playing Marie would have felt familiar, similar to my role in ‘Kina,’ so I chose Margaret. She’s a mother struggling with the heartache of her two daughters constantly letting her down. It was an emotionally challenging role that allowed me to explore new dimensions in my acting.”
When asked about her favorite film in recent years, she recalls being captivated by 2023’s “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning,” which she watched in the cinema. She also has a keen interest in true crime documentaries.
For aspiring content creators, her advice is simple: “Do your job. You came to work as an individual, so always give your best. When you excel, people will keep coming back. Being reliable and disciplined builds trust.”
As for what’s next, she remains focused on the present. “One day at a time. There’s nothing like the past or the future—it’s all about the here and now. We’ll find out what’s next when the time comes.”
