Kenyan actress and producer Sarah Hassan has been honoured with the prestigious Entertainer of the Year award at the 2025 Forbes Woman Africa Awards. The recognition celebrates her immense contributions to the entertainment industry and her role in elevating African storytelling on the global stage.
Hassan took to social media on Thursday to share her excitement, posting a picture of her award and describing the moment as “surreal.” She expressed deep gratitude to her supporters, saying, “Thank you to everyone who has called, commented, messaged me, and just showed me love. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. This is a moment I will treasure forever.”
The awards ceremony was held on Wednesday night in Pretoria, South Africa, where an exclusive summit dinner was hosted for all the nominated women. The Forbes Woman Africa Awards recognizes trailblazing women who have made significant impacts in various fields, highlighting their dedication, resilience, and achievements. Among the other nominees for the Entertainer of the Year category were South African media personality Minnie Dlamini, Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage, and artist Nissi Ogulu.
Sarah Hassan’s journey in the entertainment industry began at a young age when she gained widespread recognition for her role as Tanya in the beloved Kenyan high-school drama series “Tahidi High.” Her talent and versatility have since been showcased in numerous acclaimed productions, including “Plan B”, “Just In Time”, and the crime drama series “Crime and Justice.”
Beyond acting, Hassan has also made a name for herself in film production. Through her company, Alfajiri Productions, she has produced several notable works, including “Plan B” and “Just In Time”, further cementing her influence in the African film industry.
In addition to her latest award, Hassan received national recognition in December 2024, when she was among over 500 Kenyans honoured by President William Ruto during a ceremony at State House, Nairobi, following the Jamhuri Day celebrations. She was awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) for her significant contributions to the Kenyan film industry.
