Veteran journalist and former KTN news anchor Njoroge Mwaura has died at the age of 74. The seasoned broadcaster passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.
His wife Lucy Njoroge confirmed the news, revealing that he had undergone surgery but did not respond well to the procedure. “After the surgery, he did not respond well. He was taken back to ICU and he passed on Saturday night, that is very early Sunday,” she said. However, she did not disclose the illness that led to his hospitalization.
Njoroge Mwaura was a household name in Kenyan journalism, known for his deep, authoritative voice and insightful reporting. He began his career as a young news anchor at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) before joining KTN in the early 1990s when the station was established as Kenya’s first independent television network.
During his time at KTN, Njoroge became a respected figure in the newsroom, delivering news with poise and professionalism. He was particularly known for his segment, Njoroge’s Notebook, where he tackled pressing national issues, offering in-depth analysis and engaging discussions.
