Television personality Wendy Williams was taken to a local hospital for evaluation on March 10 after authorities responded to concerns about her well-being. The New York Police Department (NYPD) escorted Williams from her assisted living facility following reports that she was seen throwing handwritten notes from her apartment window, some of which read, “Help! Wendy!!,” according to the New York Post.
Images captured by onlookers showed Williams waving from her window while talking on the phone. The alarming incident led authorities to conduct a welfare check, highlighting ongoing concerns about her health and living situation.
The former talk show host, who has been living in the facility under a court-appointed guardianship since 2022, has reportedly been expressing a desire to leave. In a January interview with The Breakfast Club, Williams described her experience in the facility as feeling like being in a “luxury prison” and insisted she was “not cognitively impaired.”
Williams was placed under guardianship after a bank alleged she was a victim of financial exploitation. Since then, her family has voiced concerns over their limited contact with her. “The people who love her cannot see her,” her sister, Wanda Finnie, told People Magazine, emphasizing the struggle to communicate with Williams in recent months.
In 2023, Williams was diagnosed with dementia and aphasia, conditions that affect cognitive function and language abilities. However, she has claimed that she has not been reevaluated since the initial diagnosis, further complicating her legal and medical situation.
Williams’ hospitalization comes at a time when her struggles with health, financial guardianship, and family estrangement continue to make headlines. Despite her public reassurances that she is of sound mind, the circumstances surrounding her care and autonomy remain contentious.
As of now, Williams’ representatives have not released an official statement regarding the latest incident. Fans and supporters continue to express concern for the former media icon, hoping for clarity on her condition and future well-being.
