Determined to spotlight the importance of eye care, Mbeche, a dedicated medic, embarked on an ambitious motorbike journey dubbed “Eyes for Africa on Two Wheels.” Accompanied by three fellow riders, he traversed over 13,000 km across ten countries, documenting his adventure on Facebook. His mission: to educate people about preventing blindness.
Setting off from Nairobi, Kenya, Mbeche spent 22 days on the road, enduring challenging terrains from smooth tarmac to rugged gravel, sandy trails, and river crossings. He rode his reliable 14-year-old BMW R1200 GS, which carried him without fail.
Mbeche’s journey was fraught with trials. He faced arrests in foreign lands, got lost using his GPS, battled fatigue, and even nodded off while riding. Despite these hardships, he experienced the stunning beauty of Africa and met incredible people along the way. His resilience paid off, and he was warmly welcomed back to Nairobi by family and fellow bikers.
Reflecting on his journey, Mbeche expressed deep gratitude for the donations and encouragement that kept him going. “An unforgettable journey of resilience and discovery,” he described it.
