The Zetech Sparks are blazing a trail towards the Kenya Basketball Women’s Premier League (KNBL) final after a decisive 61-49 victory over Equity in Game Three of the semi-final playoffs at the Nyayo Gymnasium on Friday.
With this crucial win, Zetech takes a commanding 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series, positioning themselves just one game away from securing a place in the finals. Game Four is set for Saturday at the same venue, where Zetech aims to close out the series, while Equity will fight to force a decisive Game Five on Sunday.
The Sparks showed no signs of slowing down in the second half, building an 8-point lead with a 19-13 scoreline at the end of the third quarter. They maintained their momentum with a 15-11 win in the final quarter, sealing their victory with authority.
Chantel Kiyoba, Maureen Bosibori, and Ashley Minayo led the charge for Zetech, combining for 33 points. Their dynamic offense and cohesive teamwork proved too much for Equity to counter.
Despite a spirited effort, Equity struggled to match Zetech’s relentless pace. Veteran player Betty Kananu stood out for the bankers, scoring a game-high 17 points. Rita Onyango contributed 11 points, but their combined efforts were insufficient against Zetech’s formidable performance.
As the Sparks look to finalize the series on Saturday, Equity must regroup and devise a stronger strategy to stay in the playoffs. The basketball community eagerly anticipates another thrilling clash as both teams vie for a coveted spot in the KNBL final.
