Eutelsat OneWeb has made a significant stride in enhancing its low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network by unveiling a new Satellite Network Portal (SNP) in Luanda, Angola. This development marks a substantial step forward in the company’s mission to provide seamless and high-speed internet connectivity across Africa. The launch of the Luanda SNP has been officially approved by Honorable Minister Mr. Mario Olivera and Mr. Joaquim Muhongo, Chairman of INACOM (Instituto Angolano das Comunicações).
The new ground station in Luanda is set to play a crucial role in bridging the digital divide in Angola and the broader African continent. Satellite Network Portals are essential infrastructure for enabling seamless data transmission from satellites to end-users on Earth. By facilitating high-speed internet access, the Luanda SNP is poised to bring significant improvements to connectivity, especially in underserved and remote areas where traditional terrestrial internet infrastructure is lacking.
The establishment of the SNP in Luanda is not just a technological advancement; it is a vital catalyst for socio-economic development. Access to high-speed internet is a key driver of progress in various sectors, including education, healthcare, commerce, and governance. By providing reliable internet connectivity, Eutelsat OneWeb’s new portal is expected to empower communities, foster innovation, and enhance the overall quality of life.
In education, for instance, the availability of high-speed internet can transform learning experiences, offering students access to a wealth of online resources and enabling remote learning opportunities. In healthcare, improved connectivity can facilitate telemedicine services, allowing for remote consultations and better access to medical information.
The approval and support from Mr. Mario Olivera and Mr. Joaquim Muhongo underscore the strategic importance of this initiative. The collaboration between Eutelsat OneWeb and Angolan authorities highlights a shared vision for leveraging advanced satellite technology to drive development and inclusivity.
Mr. Mario Olivera emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure, stating, “The launch of the Satellite Network Portal in Luanda represents a significant milestone in our efforts to improve connectivity and promote digital inclusion. This initiative aligns with our broader goals of fostering innovation and socio-economic growth across Angola.”
Mr. Joaquim Muhongo, Chairman of INACOM, echoed these sentiments, adding, “INACOM is proud to support this project, which will not only boost internet access in Angola but also contribute to the digital transformation of our continent. The partnership with Eutelsat OneWeb is a testament to our dedication to harnessing technology for the betterment of our society.”
The inauguration of the Luanda SNP is just one of many steps Eutelsat OneWeb is taking to expand its global satellite network. As the company continues to deploy more satellites and ground stations, the vision of ubiquitous, high-speed internet access is becoming increasingly attainable.
