Former Nairobi County Chief Finance Officer Jimmy Mutuku Kiamba has made an emotional plea to the court to spare his matrimonial home after being ordered to surrender assets worth over Ksh317 million. The court ruling, which followed investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), determined that Kiamba had accumulated wealth disproportionate to his known legitimate income, deeming the assets as proceeds of corruption.
Kiamba and his wife were ordered to forfeit Ksh114 million held in multiple bank accounts and several high-end properties across Nairobi, including a palatial home in Runda. The court found that the couple’s declared sources of income could not justify the large sums deposited in their accounts, which included supposed earnings from farming and various businesses that lacked supporting evidence.
In a bid to retain his matrimonial home, Kiamba has appealed to the court, arguing that losing it would cause undue hardship. The former finance chief’s case highlights the ongoing efforts by Kenyan authorities to reclaim assets acquired through corruption and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of economic crimes.
