The Public Service Commission (PSC) has shortlisted 109 candidates out of 2,517 applicants for the position of Principal Secretary (PS), drawing from an array of prominent public figures. Among the shortlisted are former Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu, Director-General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, and former Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary-General Dr. Ouma Oluga.
Social media commentator Gabriel Oguda and former nominated Member of Parliament Wilson Sossion have also made the cut, alongside other high-profile candidates such as former Chief Administrative Secretary David Osiany and ex-Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) board chair Anne Makori.
The PSC announced that the vacancies arose due to recent reassignments within executive ranks. Candidates shortlisted will undergo interviews at a date yet to be announced. After the vetting process, the successful applicants’ names will be forwarded to President William Ruto for formal appointment.
The list includes other notable individuals such as Dr. Macharia Irungu, former Managing Director of Kenya Pipeline Company, and Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, former CEO of the Kenya National Commission for Science, Technology, and Innovation. Additionally, former Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) Managing Director Dr. Naim Bilal and Ambassador Galma Boru are in the running for these prestigious roles.
PSC Chairperson Anthony Muchiri invited members of the public to submit any information regarding the shortlisted candidates through sworn affidavits. These submissions can be made either physically at the PSC office or via email at principalsecretary2024@publicservice.go.ke by January 24, 2025.
The public input underscores PSC’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the selection process, ensuring only the most qualified candidates ascend to these influential positions.
This development comes at a critical time as the government seeks to streamline its leadership structure to achieve key development goals under President Ruto’s administration.
