A man in Las Vegas has been arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing his son, claiming that the victim “fell on a knife.” The incident occurred on December 22, 2024, in an apartment located on Pebble Road near Maryland Parkway. The victim, identified as Nelson Garcia-Leon, was found suffering from stab wounds to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Police discovered a bloody 15-inch knife hidden behind an ice cooler near the apartment.
The investigation began when a woman, described as Garcia-Leon’s girlfriend, came home to find him behaving unusually and noticed blood on his chest. She also saw a knife on the ground. When she asked Garcia-Hernandez, Garcia-Leon’s father, what had happened, he allegedly claimed that his son had “fallen on the knife.” The woman attempted to call 911 but struggled with dialing, and she reported that Garcia-Hernandez did nothing to assist his son. When she urged him to seek help, he left the apartment.
Upon interviewing Garcia-Hernandez, the elderly father stated that he and his son had been involved in a verbal altercation over his son’s drinking habits. He claimed that after his son collapsed, he sought help from neighbors, who assisted in moving Garcia-Leon into the bedroom. One of the neighbors later called 911, reporting that Garcia-Hernandez had said his son had fallen on the knife and was bleeding. The neighbor noted that Garcia-Hernandez appeared calm and unconcerned, which raised suspicions among authorities.
As detectives continued their investigation, they noticed inconsistencies in Garcia-Hernandez’s account of the events. His changing story led them to suspect his involvement in the stabbing. The police soon found the knife, which had been hidden hastily behind an ice cooler, further strengthening their suspicions. Additionally, records revealed that Garcia-Hernandez had a history of violent behavior, including previous arrests for allegedly threatening others with knives, with one incident as recent as May.
Following these developments, Garcia-Hernandez was arrested and charged with open murder. He is currently being held without bail at the Clark County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 9, 2025. The case has drawn significant attention due to the unusual nature of the crime and the apparent lack of remorse or urgency shown by the father after the stabbing. Authorities are continuing to investigate the details surrounding the altercation and the events leading up to Garcia-Leon’s tragic death.
