A Texas man, Deontray Flanagan, has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of the capital murder of his 2-year-old daughter, Zevaya Marie Flanagan. The chilling crime occurred in March 2023, when Flanagan strangled his daughter while on a high-speed chase with police, all while FaceTiming the child’s mother and grandfather. The horrific scene unfolded as the mother, Kairsten Watson, helplessly watched her daughter die from the back of a police cruiser.
Flanagan, 26, was found guilty in a Houston courtroom after a brief deliberation by the jury, which took less than two hours to convict him. During the trial, the jury was shown a video of Watson’s desperate pleas as she witnessed her daughter’s final moments. Watson testified that there was nothing she could do to stop the attack, and her emotional testimony left a lasting impact on those in the courtroom.
The case began when Flanagan picked up his daughter from daycare and then stormed into a nearby Walmart where Watson worked.
