Pan-African energy and manufacturing conglomerate, Amsons Group, has formally initiated the integration of Bamburi Cement into its corporate portfolio. This development follows the recent completion of a transformative $183 million acquisition, which saw Amsons secure more than 95% of Bamburi’s issued equity shares through its Kenyan subsidiary, Amsons Industries (K) Ltd.
Announcing the integration, Amsons Group Managing Director, Mr. Edha Nahdi, assured stakeholders of a seamless transition with minimal operational and administrative disruptions. He emphasized the group’s commitment to maintaining the high operational and commercial standards set by previous majority shareholders, Holcim Ltd and Lafarge.
“From the onset, I want to assure Bamburi Cement stakeholders of our commitment to upholding and enhancing the high operating and commercial standards set by Holcim Ltd and Lafarge. That is our promise to our customers, employees, banks, suppliers, and all stakeholders,” Nahdi stated.
As part of this commitment, Amsons Group will retain Bamburi Cement’s executive management team, led by CEO Mr. Mohit Kapoor, to ensure continuity and operational excellence. Nahdi described Bamburi Cement as a key addition to Amsons’ growing pan-African business portfolio, joining the group’s flagship cement brand, Camel Cement, and the expanding Mbeya Cement operations.
Looking ahead, Amsons Group has outlined ambitious growth plans for Bamburi Cement, aligned with Kenya’s national economic transformation agenda under President William Ruto. The conglomerate has pledged an additional $400 million investment over the next three years, earmarked for expanding operations, including the development of an integrated clinker plant in Matuga, Kwale County.
“We are confident that these investments will position the company for sustained success and strengthen Bamburi Cement’s market leadership,” Nahdi added.
Founded in 2006 in Tanzania, Amsons Group has grown from an importer of bulk oil and petroleum products under the Camel Oil Tanzania brand into a diversified powerhouse. With Bamburi Cement’s integration, the group’s total cement production capacity now stands at 13,000MT/day. Its operations span multiple sectors, including wheat flour milling, premix concrete, inland container depots, fuel and lubricants, liquefied petroleum gas, and transportation networks across Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, DRC, Burundi, and Tanzania.
This strategic expansion reinforces Amsons Group’s commitment to strengthening East Africa’s manufacturing and construction industries, solidifying its position as a key player in the region’s economic growth
