Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, Alice Wahome, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering innovative urban planning strategies to accommodate Kenya’s rapid urbanization. Speaking during her visit to the Global Trade Centre (GTC) in Nairobi, CS Wahome emphasized the importance of integrating modern infrastructure development to meet the demands of the country’s growing population and evolving urban landscape.
The visit to GTC Nairobi marks a strategic step in aligning Kenya’s urban development agenda with global best practices. CS Wahome highlighted that embracing innovative architectural and infrastructural solutions is crucial in ensuring sustainable urban growth while enhancing the quality of life for city dwellers.
“The GTC Nairobi is more than just a landmark; it serves as a model for modern urban development, influencing policies in housing, public works, and city planning. Its success provides valuable insights that can help shape a more inclusive, efficient, and sustainable urban future,” she said.
Accompanied by Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga, Principal Secretary for Public Works, Joel Arumonyang, and National Construction Authority Executive Director, Eng. Maurice Aketch, CS Wahome toured the state-of-the-art facility, which stands as a testament to Kenya’s growing status as a hub for architectural and infrastructural excellence.
At 184 meters and 43 stories high, GTC Nairobi is the tallest mixed-use development in East Africa, redefining the city’s skyline. The development comprises luxury residential apartments, a high-end shopping mall, a five-star hotel, and premium office spaces, setting new standards for contemporary urban planning in the region.
CS Wahome reiterated that such developments serve as blueprints for future projects, offering lessons on effective urban integration, sustainable housing solutions, and innovative public infrastructure. She noted that the government remains committed to fostering partnerships with the private sector to drive urban renewal projects that meet international standards.
As Kenya continues to urbanize rapidly, strategic investments in modern infrastructure and urban planning will be key in ensuring sustainable development, improved economic opportunities, and enhanced quality of life for residents. The government’s focus on innovation in urban development signals a forward-thinking approach aimed at shaping a vibrant and resilient urban future.
