Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Saturday evening engaged with Kenyan professionals living in Windhoek, Namibia, in a meeting aimed at strengthening ties between the diaspora community and the Kenyan government. The meeting took place after Kindiki attended the burial of Namibia’s founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma.
During the gathering, the Deputy President outlined five key interventions that the Kenyan government is implementing to improve the economy and enhance the quality of life for its citizens, including those living abroad. These interventions focus on economic growth, job creation, infrastructure development, governance, and social welfare improvements.
Kindiki emphasized that the Kenyan government recognizes the vital role played by the diaspora in national development through remittances and investments. He assured the professionals that their concerns would be considered in the formulation of policies aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business, improving trade opportunities, and streamlining immigration processes for Kenyans abroad.
The Kenyan community representatives in Namibia used the opportunity to raise several pertinent issues affecting them. Among the key concerns highlighted were challenges related to immigration, travel logistics, and trade facilitation between Kenya and Namibia. They also expressed the need for enhanced consular services to address administrative hurdles faced by Kenyans in Namibia.
Kindiki reassured the diaspora that the government is actively working on improving service delivery for Kenyans abroad. He noted that initiatives such as digitizing government services and enhancing diplomatic relations with host countries would help address many of the challenges raised.
The meeting underscored the importance of engagement between the government and Kenyans in the diaspora, as they play a crucial role in fostering economic and cultural ties between Kenya and other nations. The Deputy President encouraged Kenyan professionals in Namibia to explore investment opportunities back home and assured them of the government’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment.
