Kenyans may soon be able to hire private security guards, bouncers, and event stewards at the tap of a button, thanks to a revolutionary new platform created by former Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) Director General, Fazul Mahammed.
The new guard-hailing app, modeled after ride-sharing services like Uber, aims to eliminate the inefficiencies of traditional private security firms by directly connecting clients with registered security personnel. Fazul argues that the private security industry is flawed, with security firms exploiting guards while overcharging clients. His app seeks to disrupt the industry by offering fair wages to security personnel and cost-effective services to clients.
Fazul states that the platform will onboard over 1.3 million security guards, making it one of the largest employment platforms outside the government. The app will allow security personnel to set their work preferences, choose assignments, and gain control over their earnings. Security professionals will be verified through a Guard Force Number issued by PSRA after training at accredited institutions.
One of the major advantages of the platform is the elimination of administrative overhead costs that inflate security service fees. Currently, clients pay around Sh1,500 per day for a security guard, but the new platform will lower this to between Sh800 and Sh900. The app also allows customers to hire security personnel based on specific needs—be it for a few hours, a day, or long-term assignments without being tied to rigid contracts.
The platform also promises improved emergency response times. Instead of relying on a security company’s limited resources, response units will be deployed based on proximity, ensuring faster reaction times in cases of security threats.
Additionally, the digitization of payments will enhance transparency, eliminating tax evasion in an industry that reportedly dodges over Sh14 billion in taxes annually. This ensures the government benefits from tax revenue while guards receive fair compensation.
With its potential to transform the private security industry, Fazul’s app is set to redefine security services in Kenya, empowering guards, reducing costs, and offering clients greater flexibility and reliability.
