Cloud communications provider Infobip has announced a strategic five-year partnership with Bayobab, a leading digital connectivity provider in Africa. This collaboration aims to transform SMS services across the continent by leveraging Infobip’s Communication Platform as a Service (CPaaS).
Under this agreement, Bayobab will integrate Infobip’s CPaaS platform to manage SMS campaign activities, streamline APIs, and enhance analytics. Additionally, Bayobab will benefit from Infobip’s state-of-the-art security solutions, including an advanced firewall to protect mobile subscribers from fraud and cyber threats.
With over 115,000 km of fiber optic cable and direct or indirect management of 24 subsea cables, Bayobab is a crucial player in Africa’s connectivity landscape. The company also boasts over 70 Points of Presence (PoPs) spanning Africa, Europe, and Asia. By partnering with Infobip, Bayobab will optimize its SMS connectivity and routing while reducing operational costs, supporting its expansion initiatives across the continent.
“Our partnership optimizes Bayobab’s SMS connectivity and routing across Africa, supporting its expansion plans. We invested heavily in our CPaaS enablement capabilities, which now serve Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) worldwide with top-tier security and efficiency,” said Matija Ražem, Chief Commercial Telecom Officer at Infobip.
Infobip, a global leader in messaging solutions since 2006, has extensive expertise in managing SMS traffic with secure processes and cutting-edge technology. This partnership represents a step forward in its strategy to enable large telecom groups to maximize their messaging potential through a centralized hub approach.
Traditionally, brands had to establish individual connections with each MNO in the MTN Group to terminate SMS traffic. However, Infobip’s CPaaS platform now allows Bayobab to offer a simplified process. Brands and aggregators can securely connect once and seamlessly send SMS traffic to MTN and other operators, significantly improving efficiency and reliability.
“We wanted to simplify how brands manage messaging in Africa with a single access point, high-quality service, and necessary controls. Our partnership with Infobip equips us to do this on a large scale and is crucial for tapping into Africa’s growth potential, where consumers demand messaging solutions, chat apps, and internet access,” said Kedar Gupte, Chief Mobility Business Officer at Bayobab.
As Africa’s digital landscape continues to expand, this partnership will play a vital role in enhancing mobile communication services, driving efficiency, and supporting the growing demand for seamless messaging solutions across the continent.
