Kenya Electricity Generation Company (KenGen) has signed a landmark partnership with Radio Africa Group and Enashipai ahead of the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally, set to take place in Naivasha from March 20, 2025. This collaboration aims to highlight sustainability efforts and energy efficiency in motorsport.
During a press conference at KenGen Plaza on March 12, KenGen Managing Director and CEO Peter Njenga emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating that it is a step toward a cleaner and more energy-efficient future.
The partnership will introduce the KenGen Geothermal Stage in Olkaria, utilizing Africa’s largest geothermal hub to showcase sustainable energy integration. Among the key initiatives are geothermal-powered EV charging stations, solar infrastructure, and an energy-efficient rally village designed to reduce the event’s carbon footprint.
“Our partnership with WRC Safari Rally 2025 is more than a collaboration; it is a powerful statement of intent,” said Njenga. “It exemplifies how global sports and energy innovation can converge to redefine sustainability in high-performance environments.”
KenGen also announced a Sh500,000 sponsorship for top female rally driver Pauline Sheghu, reinforcing gender inclusivity in motorsport. “Pauline carries the aspirations of future African women champions,” Njenga noted. Additionally, programs like Pink Energy and Blue Energy will support women and youth in renewable energy sectors.
Radio Africa Group’s Editorial Director Paul Ilado highlighted the role of media in amplifying sustainability efforts, ensuring comprehensive coverage across various platforms. “We’re merging media, sport, and sustainability to inspire a greener future. We will provide coverage leading up to the event, during, and post-rally, ensuring Pauline and her team receive the limelight they deserve,” Ilado stated.
KenGen is also enhancing the rally fan experience with interactive clean energy hubs, real-time renewable energy demonstrations, and green technology exhibitions.
Furthermore, KenGen has partnered with Enashipai Resort and Spa to provide world-class hospitality while showcasing sustainability in the hotel industry. “KenGen has been our partner since we opened in 2011, and we are delighted to collaborate on their new geothermal stage,” said Enashipai representatives.
This partnership underscores KenGen’s commitment to sustainability, setting a precedent for future global sporting events.
