The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Foundation is making a significant impact on education in Kenya, particularly among students with disabilities and those from underprivileged backgrounds. Through its Inuka Scholarship Programme, the foundation has provided financial assistance to hundreds of students, allowing them to pursue secondary education without the burden of school fees.
Since its inception in 2017, the Inuka Programme has sponsored 746 students across all 47 counties, selecting a boy and a girl from each county annually. The initiative has given hope to students like Levy Kabesa, Allan Kwambai, Musicha Ronnix, and Blessings Isabwa, who, despite facing visual impairments and medical challenges, achieved impressive academic results.
Kabesa, who lost his vision due to a childhood injury, graduated with an A plain thanks to KPC’s support. Kwambai, battling haemophilia, scored an A-, while Ronnix and Isabwa also excelled, proving that financial support and mentorship can transform lives.
Building on this success, KPC introduced the Inuka Plus Scholarship Programme in December 2023 to help students transition to university and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. The programme covers tuition, meals, accommodation, and assistive devices while providing mentorship and psychosocial support.
Beyond individual scholarships, the KPC Foundation is addressing infrastructure challenges in schools. The foundation has invested over Ksh 200 million in improving learning facilities nationwide. In February 2024, it commissioned projects worth Ksh 24 million in Homa Bay County, including dormitories, classrooms, and laboratories.
Some notable projects include the construction of classrooms at Masangora Girls’ Secondary School in Migori, Cheptuiyet Girls High School in Kericho, and a library at Hema Girls’ Secondary School in Kisii. The foundation has also built dormitories in Marsabit, Kericho, and Kakamega counties and replaced asbestos roofs at Kwale School for the Deaf and Deaf Blind.
KPC’s commitment to education is a testament to its belief that investing in learning opportunities can break the cycle of poverty. Through its scholarships and school improvement initiatives, the foundation is shaping a brighter future for Kenya’s youth, ensuring that financial and infrastructural challenges do not hinder their pursuit of success.
