Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced a scheduled power outage set to affect parts of Nairobi and Garissa on Saturday. The power interruption will take place between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM in select areas, impacting both residential and industrial customers.
In Nairobi, affected areas include Furniture International, Malplast, Economic Industries, Elgon Kenya, Kengrow, and Modulec Industry, along with adjacent customers. Additionally, Spectre Limited, Furniture Palace, C & P Shoes, Eagles Plain East, Wamy School, and St. Bakhita School will also experience power outages within the same timeframe. These areas host key businesses, industries, and educational institutions, meaning the planned outage could impact operations significantly.
Meanwhile, in Garissa, the blackout is expected to extend slightly longer, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Areas set to be affected include Garissa Town, the Provincial Headquarters, Balambala, the Governor’s Office and Residence, KBC, Madogo, Bangale, Garissa University, Modika Barracks, Garissa Level 5 Hospital, and Garissa Water. This interruption could have far-reaching effects, particularly in essential services such as healthcare and water supply.
KPLC has not provided specific reasons for the outage but typically schedules such interruptions for routine maintenance, network upgrades, or emergency repairs. Customers in the affected regions are advised to plan accordingly, ensuring they complete critical tasks before the blackout period.
As power restoration is expected by 5:00 PM in Nairobi and 5:30 PM in Garissa, residents and businesses should be prepared for potential delays. Kenya Power has urged affected customers to exercise patience and assured them that efforts will be made to restore electricity as soon as possible.
