The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has outlined strategic initiatives to enhance its operational efficiency and international standing. Speaking during an Iftar dinner held at the KPA Sports Club in Mbaraki, Managing Director Capt. William Ruto emphasized the importance of skills development and capacity building to drive productivity among employees.
To bolster its workforce’s expertise, KPA is set to implement benchmarking programs that will see a section of staff gain exposure to leading global ports. Capt. Ruto underscored the significance of these initiatives, stating, “By fostering a high-performance culture, we aim to solidify our status as a regional hub and compete on the international stage.”
The benchmarking initiative is expected to equip KPA employees with the necessary knowledge and best practices from some of the world’s most efficient ports, enhancing their capabilities in port management, logistics, and operational excellence. This move aligns with KPA’s broader objective of improving service delivery and maintaining its competitive edge in maritime trade.
KPA Board Chairman Benjamin Tayari lauded the workforce’s commitment and dedication, urging them to intensify their efforts in elevating the port’s reputation. He highlighted that the collaborative spirit among employees has been a key factor in KPA’s success over the years.
“The hard work and dedication of our staff have been instrumental in positioning KPA as a leader in port operations. It is through their collective effort that we continue to attract global trade and investment,” Tayari remarked.
The Iftar dinner, besides celebrating the holy month of Ramadan, served as a platform for reinforcing the importance of teamwork and cooperation among staff. It brought together KPA management, board members, employees, and key stakeholders from the shipping and logistics industry. Senior government officials and Coast region political leaders were also in attendance, reflecting the strategic significance of KPA in national economic development.
As KPA looks to the future, these planned initiatives are expected to not only enhance efficiency but also position the port as a premier gateway for trade in Africa. With a renewed focus on skills development, strategic partnerships, and operational excellence, KPA is poised to scale new heights in global maritime competitiveness.
