Residents in parts of Machakos, Bungoma, and Embu counties should brace for power interruptions on Monday, as Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) undertakes essential system maintenance. The planned outages, scheduled to occur between 9am and 5pm, are part of the utility firm’s ongoing efforts to enhance electricity reliability and efficiency across the country.
In Machakos County, the power cuts will primarily affect parts of Athi River. Notable areas set to experience outages include Senior Staff, Apex TMD, Kongoni, Great Wall Phases 3 to 6, Jamcity, Mavuno Church, and surrounding customers.
Meanwhile, in Bungoma County, the Misanga area will be impacted. The outage will disrupt power supply to Bokoli Market, Bokoli Dispensary, Bukembe Market, Chebesi Secondary School, Matulo, and adjacent regions.
In Embu County, affected areas include Njukiri, the Export Processing Zone (EPZ), Kathangariri, and neighboring areas such as Njukiri Market, Nthambo, Ngerwe, Kathangari, Mukangu, and Muthathai.
KPLC clarified that these interruptions are necessary to facilitate routine network maintenance and system upgrades. Such planned outages allow engineers to carry out crucial improvements on the electricity distribution infrastructure, thereby boosting power supply reliability and reducing the likelihood of unexpected blackouts.
Apart from scheduled maintenance, the utility company also experiences unplanned power interruptions caused by a variety of issues. These include equipment failures, vandalism, and adverse weather conditions such as heavy rains and strong winds. In rural regions, even wildlife, including elephants, have occasionally caused damage to power lines, prompting emergency repairs.
Kenya Power urged affected customers to plan accordingly and assured the public that power will be restored promptly once maintenance work is completed. The company reiterated its commitment to providing safe and dependable electricity to all its consumers across the country.
Residents in the listed areas are encouraged to stay informed through official Kenya Power communication channels for updates and potential changes to the schedule.
