The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issued a notice informing customers of scheduled power interruptions in several areas across the North Rift and Western regions today, Sunday, April 13, 2025. The planned outages are part of ongoing system maintenance works aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply.
In its statement, the utility firm emphasized that the maintenance exercise is essential for the upgrade of the national grid, ensuring improved service delivery in the long term. KPLC noted that power interruptions are often necessary for conducting safety inspections, upgrading infrastructure, and connecting new customers to the grid.
In Uasin Gishu County, residents of Soy constituency will be among the hardest hit, with areas such as Furfural, Nangili, Likuyani, Imbinga, Ivugwi, Lumino, Navilus, Kabobo Farm, Kipsomba, Tarakwa, Chemoset, Lugulu, Chemororoch, Mawe Tatu, and Kongoni expected to experience a power outage from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additionally, another segment of the county including Pan Villa, RAM Garage, CMC Motors, ODM Estate, and Moi University Hostels will be without power from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In Kisumu County’s Western region, the Awasi Market area will also be affected by the maintenance exercise. Areas set to experience power loss between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. include Pala Market, Prime Steel, Gogni Quarry, Bondo Kochola, Holo Dispensary, and Stonefield Quarry.
KPLC has urged residents in the affected regions to make the necessary preparations to minimize disruptions to their daily activities. The company also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the outages and reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery through continuous network upgrades.
The power utility company carries out such planned maintenance works regularly to address faults, install new equipment, and expand capacity in line with growing demand.
