Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced scheduled power interruptions in various regions across five counties on Wednesday, as part of planned maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. The affected counties include Nairobi, Kajiado, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kakamega, and Nyeri.
In Nairobi County, residents of Ngumba Estate and surrounding areas will be without power from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The planned outage is expected to facilitate essential maintenance and improve power reliability in the area.
Kajiado County will see the largest coverage of affected zones, with a power cut scheduled from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas to be affected include Matasia, Saina, Bluesky, Oloosuyian, Oloyankalani, Saab Royal, Suguna Feeds, Kajiado Referral Hospital, Masai Polytechnic, and Kajiado Town. In Nyeri County, residents in Rititi and Gatunganga areas will experience outages between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Power interruptions will affect a wide range of institutions and businesses including markets, secondary schools, water pumps, and telecommunications boosters.
According to KPLC, these scheduled interruptions are necessary for network maintenance and system upgrades to ensure long-term reliability and efficiency. The utility also emphasized that while scheduled outages are communicated in advance, unplanned interruptions may still occur due to equipment failures, extreme weather, vandalism, or interference from wildlife.
Customers are advised to plan accordingly and treat all electrical lines as live for safety.
