The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has officially opened applications for its 2025 May–July industrial attachment programme, aimed at providing journalism and communication students with practical work experience. This initiative is designed to equip students with the skills and exposure needed to thrive in the competitive media industry.
In a statement released on Monday, MCK emphasized its commitment to fostering the growth of future media professionals by offering hands-on experience that complements academic learning. The attachment programme, which will run for three months, will place successful applicants in various media houses and communication outlets across the country, based on their area of specialization.
MCK has collaborated with recognized media organizations to ensure that the students are placed in environments that will provide them with valuable mentorship and industry exposure. The attachment period will also include a monthly stipend to support the trainees’ upkeep, making it an attractive opportunity for aspiring media professionals.
To be eligible for the programme, applicants must be final-year students pursuing a degree or diploma in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, Digital Communication, or Corporate Communication from a recognized institution. Applicants are required to submit a recommendation letter from their institution, indicating the attachment period, along with their academic transcripts for the current year. A valid student identification card and an MCK Student Press Card for 2025 are also necessary.
In addition, candidates must submit a sample of their previous journalistic work, which could include online content or school projects. This will allow the Council to assess their skills and areas of expertise. The selected students will be assigned to media sectors such as print, radio, television, technical work, production, and digital media.
The deadline for submitting applications is Sunday, April 13, 2025. Students are encouraged to apply through the online portal and ensure that all required documents are uploaded.
The Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) has expressed its full support for the initiative, recognizing its role in preparing students for the evolving media landscape. MCK has also reiterated that it does not solicit payments or work with agents in the recruitment process, ensuring a transparent and equitable application procedure for all.
