The Milimani Affordable Housing Project in Vihiga County is making significant progress, with 220 housing units under the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) now 76 percent complete. The project, valued at an estimated Ksh 536 million, is on track for completion by August 2025, offering an affordable housing solution for residents of the region.
County Director of Housing, Teresia Ooko, confirmed the project’s steady progress, revealing that Ksh 343 million has been paid to the contractor for the work completed so far. During a County Development Implementation Management Committee (CDIMC) meeting, Ooko expressed optimism that the contractor would meet the set deadlines, reassuring local residents and stakeholders that the project would be finished as scheduled.
“This project is a major milestone in the government’s efforts to provide affordable housing for the people of Vihiga,” said Ooko. She highlighted that since the project’s commencement in September 2023, it has not only contributed to the construction of homes but has also provided significant employment opportunities for local residents. Hundreds of people have been hired, both skilled and unskilled, injecting vitality into the local economy.
The housing units will be priced at Ksh 1 million for a one-bedroom, Ksh 2 million for a two-bedroom, and Ksh 3 million for a three-bedroom, making them accessible to a wide range of buyers. Prospective homeowners interested in acquiring a unit can apply via the Boma Yangu website or by dialing *832# and following the registration instructions.
A recent visit to the site by members of the CDIMC confirmed that the project is progressing smoothly, and they expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far. The project is set to contribute significantly to Vihiga County’s development, addressing the housing deficit and providing affordable options for its growing population.
