Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has officially taken over the Public Service docket on an interim basis following the removal of Justin Muturi as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service. The transition follows President William Ruto’s decision to dismiss Muturi and nominate Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku as his replacement, pending parliamentary approval.
In a statement, Mudavadi expressed gratitude to Muturi for his leadership and dedication during his tenure. He acknowledged Muturi’s efforts in enhancing public service delivery and ensuring efficiency within the government.
“We sincerely thank Justin Muturi for his steadfast leadership and commitment to advancing public service during his time as Cabinet Secretary,” Mudavadi stated.
The move comes as part of President Ruto’s broader efforts to streamline leadership roles and improve governance efficiency. Until Ruku’s nomination is vetted and approved by Parliament, Mudavadi will oversee the ministry’s operations to ensure continuity in service delivery.
“This morning, Muturi officially handed over his docket (Public Service) to my office as the Prime Cabinet Secretary on an interim basis, facilitating the verification and approval process for the newly appointed,” Mudavadi said.
He assured the public that the transition was smooth and that government operations would continue without disruption. Mudavadi emphasized the government’s commitment to accountability and effective service delivery, noting that the leadership reshuffle is aimed at reinforcing stability within key ministries.
The nomination of Geoffrey Ruku, who is the MP for Muturi’s constituency, has drawn attention due to his close ties with the president. A staunch supporter of Ruto and a member of the Democratic Party (DP), Ruku’s appointment signals a strategic political move within the administration.
The verification and approval process for Ruku is expected to follow the due legal process, with parliamentary hearings set to determine his suitability for the position.
Muturi’s removal marks yet another significant reshuffle in President Ruto’s government, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen service delivery and enhance stability in critical ministries. As the country awaits Ruku’s confirmation, Mudavadi will temporarily steer the Public Service docket, ensuring that governance functions continue seamlessly.
