Nairobi County is set to host the third edition of Innovate Nairobi Tech Week from August 20th to 22nd, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the region’s journey toward becoming Africa’s innovation hub. The event, themed “Smart Cities, Smart Solutions: Innovation, Inclusion, and Sustainability,” will bring together tech enthusiasts, industry leaders, policymakers, and investors to explore how technology can drive sustainable urban growth, enhance service delivery, and create economic opportunities.
Sande Oyolo, the County Chief Officer for Digital Economy and Startups, emphasized the event’s role in shaping Nairobi’s digital future. “This year’s event is not just about showcasing technology. It is about fostering policies that drive Nairobi’s digital economy and empower startups,” he said. The initiative aligns with Governor Johnson Sakaja’s vision of transforming Nairobi into Africa’s innovation capital.
Elizabeth Ndung’u, County Director for Digital Economy and Startups, highlighted the long-term impact of the event. Beyond the three-day conference, follow-up activities such as mentorship programs, incubation opportunities, and policy reviews will ensure that discussions translate into tangible outcomes.
The event will feature multiple tracks focusing on transformative technologies, including Agri-Tech, FinTech, Health-Tech, Edu-Tech, Robotics & AI, and gaming. Alvin Joseph, President and COO of Barbah Games, emphasized the economic potential of gaming, stating, “Gaming is more than entertainment; it is an industry with vast economic potential.”
Gideon Thande, ICT Director in the Office of the Governor, reiterated Nairobi’s commitment to digital transformation. “Through events like Innovate Nairobi Tech Week, we provide a platform where technology meets policy, ensuring innovation actively shapes governance and service delivery,” he said.
Startups will also benefit from unique opportunities to connect with investors and industry leaders. James Okoth, Co-founder of Uzuzi Hub, described the event as a place “where ideas meet opportunity.”
Key objectives of the event include enhancing digital economy policies, promoting gaming culture, creating tech-sector employment, improving digital governance, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
As Nairobi positions itself as a leader in smart city development, Innovate Nairobi Tech Week 2025 promises to be a catalyst for innovation, inclusion, and sustainable growth, setting the stage for a brighter digital future.
