A Parliamentary Committee led by Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkosing conducted a fact-finding mission this week to inspect the progress and quality of road projects in Kisii County and Nairobi. The delegation, accompanied by Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) Director General Eng. Silas Kinoti, focused on ongoing construction works aimed at improving urban connectivity and infrastructure.
In Kisii County, the Committee toured the Omogonchoro Road and Itibo-Nyagesa Roads, key routes aimed at enhancing transport efficiency in the region. The visit was part of efforts to ensure that road construction projects are being implemented to the required standards and within set timelines. MP Pkosing emphasized the Committee’s commitment to holding implementing agencies accountable while ensuring public funds are used effectively.
Meanwhile, in Nairobi, the Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy inspected projects under KURA along Mombasa Road, including the Likoni Road Bridge, Enterprise Road, and Shreeji Road. The inspection followed an audit query raised by the Auditor General regarding delays and value for money concerns on projects that commenced in October 2020.
During the tour, Chairperson Pkosing stressed the importance of transparency and efficiency in public infrastructure projects. He pointed out that the public deserves full value from government investments, especially in projects critical to economic development and urban mobility.
KURA Director General Eng. Kinoti and Kenya Railways Corporation’s Eng. Mwania Mativo were also present during the Nairobi tour. Eng. Kinoti assured the Committee that KURA is addressing the concerns raised and reaffirmed the Authority’s dedication to delivering quality infrastructure.
The Committee’s inspections highlight Parliament’s oversight role in ensuring public resources are properly utilized. It also underscores the government’s broader agenda of enhancing road networks across the country as part of the national development plan. With infrastructure forming a backbone of economic growth, stakeholders are keen to ensure timely completion and quality delivery of road projects.
