President William Ruto is set to begin a five-day working tour of the Mt Kenya region on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, marking his first visit to the area since August 2024. His itinerary includes commissioning completed projects, inspecting ongoing initiatives, and launching new developments across nine counties: Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Kiambu.
Among the key projects Ruto will oversee are road infrastructure, affordable housing, fresh produce markets, last-mile electricity connectivity, and water and irrigation projects. Additionally, he will issue title deeds to residents in Kieni (Nyeri) and Tigania West (Meru), reinforcing his administration’s commitment to land ownership rights.
A major highlight of the tour is the inspection of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPS) in Laikipia West and Githunguri (Kiambu), as well as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Maragua (Murang’a). These projects, part of a national initiative, aim to boost manufacturing and value addition in agriculture. The government is developing 47 CAIPS, each costing KSh500 million, with equal financial contributions from both the national and county governments. SEZs, operating on a larger scale, will include sectors like pharmaceuticals, with ongoing construction in Dongo Kundu (Mombasa), Sagana (Kirinyaga), Thika (Kiambu), Naivasha (Nakuru), Eldoret (Uasin Gishu), and Nasewa (Busia).
President Ruto will also review water, sanitation, and sewerage initiatives in Igembe South (Meru), Maragua (Murang’a), and Mbeere North (Embu), while assessing livestock feedlots in Tigania West and South Imenti (Meru) to enhance meat, hides, and skin production for export markets.
A crucial part of his visit includes the incomplete JM Memorial Hospital in Ol Kalou (Nyandarua), where the national and county governments aim to complete the facility and establish Nyandarua’s first Level 5 hospital. Other key projects include police housing in Chuka Igambang’ombe (Tharaka-Nithi), student hostels at Tharaka University, and the Kiambere Bulk Water Project in Mbeere South (Embu).
Ruto will also inspect the Mau Mau Road construction in Lari (Kiambu), part of a KSh5 billion investment to enhance connectivity in Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyandarua, and Nyeri counties. His housing agenda continues with site visits in Laikipia East, Ol Kalou, Kinangop, Kandara, Maragua, Chuka Igambang’ombe, and Nyeri Town.
To bolster commerce, the President will tour fresh produce markets in various counties, part of a nationwide plan to establish 500 markets. Lastly, he will launch Last Mile Electricity Connectivity projects in Laikipia West, Kieni, South Imenti, Kirinyaga Central, Ol Kalou, and Manyatta, ensuring more Kenyans have access to power and economic opportunities.
This tour underscores Ruto’s commitment to economic transformation in the Mt Kenya region, focusing on infrastructure, agriculture, and industrial growth.
