Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended warm congratulations to African nations and their people during the 38th African Union (AU) Summit, which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Saturday. In his message, President Xi reiterated China’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with African leaders to foster tangible benefits for the 2.8 billion people across China and Africa.
President Xi emphasized the growing influence of the Global South, particularly Africa and China, in an increasingly complex and shifting global landscape. He commended the AU for its continued efforts in promoting continental integration, responding effectively to global challenges, and enhancing Africa’s collective voice on the world stage.
“Over the past year, the AU has rallied African countries to vigorously promote integration within the continent, stand up to regional and global challenges, and make the unified voice of Africa heard,” Xi stated.
He further noted that these efforts have significantly contributed to the rising international stature of Africa. “This has ensured the continuous rise of Africa’s international standing and influence. I sincerely wish African countries and peoples new and even greater success in their independent pursuit of development and revitalization,” he added.
The Chinese leader reaffirmed his readiness to collaborate with African nations on implementing key initiatives outlined during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit held in Beijing last year. He referenced six modernization propositions and ten partnership actions agreed upon at the summit, which aim to enhance economic cooperation, infrastructure development, and technological advancements between China and Africa.
China-Africa relations experienced robust growth in 2024, marked by successful engagements that reinforced mutual development goals. The Beijing Summit of FOCAC served as a pivotal platform for both sides to enhance cooperation and chart a new course for the China-Africa Community with a Shared Future for Mankind.
China has played a crucial role in Africa’s development through investments in infrastructure, trade, and technological advancement. The strategic partnership between China and Africa is expected to yield significant socio-economic benefits, including increased trade volumes, improved transportation networks, and enhanced digital connectivity.
As Africa continues its journey towards economic integration and global competitiveness, the partnership with China remains a cornerstone for sustainable development. President Xi’s message underscores China’s enduring commitment to supporting Africa’s aspirations for growth, stability, and an empowered global presence.
