Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary (PS) Mary Muthoni has assured Kirinyaga residents that President William Ruto will soon visit the county for a development tour. Speaking at an event in Ngiriambu village, Muthoni sought the residents’ approval before making the pledge, emphasizing that her primary focus is on bringing national leaders to Kirinyaga to initiate development projects.
“Do you want the President to come here?” she asked the crowd, receiving an enthusiastic response. “My assignment now is to ask leaders to come to Kirinyaga for development purposes because we do not have politics here,” she added.
Muthoni urged residents to shun early 2027 election campaigns and instead focus on economic growth and community projects. She stressed that politics should take a back seat for now, with development being the top priority.
“Let politics not derail us because what we want is development. The time for politics is 2027; that is when people will take on each other,” she said.
The PS emphasized the need for better infrastructure and economic empowerment in Kirinyaga, noting that residents should prioritize education, financial stability, and access to essential services. She highlighted key areas of concern, such as road construction and water supply, as pressing issues that need immediate government intervention.
Muthoni’s remarks come at a time when President Ruto has been actively engaging in regional development tours across the country. In early February, the President spent a week in the North Eastern region, visiting Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Marsabit, and Isiolo counties. During his tour, he underscored the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in marginalized regions.
Earlier, Ruto had also spent five days in Western Kenya, launching projects aimed at boosting the local economy. His tour began with the historic issuance of the first-ever sugarcane farmers’ bonus at Mumias Sugar Company, where he disbursed Sh150 million to farmers. He also inspected the ongoing construction of the 220-unit Lurambi Affordable Housing Project and launched the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project, which aims to provide electricity to over 63,000 households in Kakamega and Bungoma counties.
Reports suggest that President Ruto is now planning a tour of the Mt. Kenya region, signaling a commitment to development in Kirinyaga and neighboring counties. His expected visit aligns with the government’s broader agenda of regional development and economic transformation.
