The government has announced plans to expand the Huduma Centre network by establishing at least one in each of Kenya’s 290 constituencies. This move is aimed at enhancing service delivery and bringing government services closer to citizens.
Principal Secretary for Public Service, Amos Gathecha, made the announcement at the Machakos Huduma Centre during the launch of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management Services (KISM) into 10 Huduma Centres across the country. The integration of KISM services into Huduma Centres is intended to improve access for supply chain professionals, eliminating the need for long-distance travel to Nairobi to obtain services.
Currently, Kenya has 58 Huduma Centres spread across various counties. The government’s expansion plan is part of its commitment to decentralized service delivery, ensuring that all Kenyans, regardless of their location, can access essential government services with ease.
Gathecha emphasized that the integration of KISM services within Huduma Centres is a strategic move to streamline operations in the procurement and supply chain sectors. This is expected to benefit professionals who rely on KISM for certifications, registrations, and other essential services.
Additionally, he highlighted the role of the Huduma Universal Agent, a specialized staff member at Huduma Centres trained to offer multiple services on behalf of various government ministries, departments, and agencies. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency and improve the overall experience for Kenyans seeking government services.
The government’s plan to increase the number of Huduma Centres aligns with the broader goal of digitizing and simplifying public service delivery. By expanding access to these one-stop service hubs, the government seeks to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and improve efficiency in service provision.
The expansion of Huduma Centres is expected to create employment opportunities for public service staff while also fostering convenience for citizens who currently travel long distances to access services.
As the initiative rolls out, Kenyans can look forward to more accessible, efficient, and citizen-friendly service delivery, reinforcing the government’s commitment to public service excellence.
