The government is intensifying efforts to strengthen collaboration between the executive and the legislature to drive the country’s development agenda. Principal Secretary of the State Department of Parliamentary Affairs, Aurelia Rono, highlighted that effective coordination between the two arms of government is crucial for the successful implementation of national development programs.
In a recent statement, PS Rono emphasized that the streamlined collaboration will ensure that government-funded programs are aligned with the necessary legislative, policy, and regulatory frameworks. The department, established by President William Ruto through an executive order in 2023, serves as a vital link between the executive and legislature, playing a pivotal role in coordinating both arms of government.
Rono also pointed out the importance of accountability in government operations. As part of the ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, the summoning of Cabinet Secretaries to appear before parliamentary committees and plenary sessions has been introduced. Furthermore, PS Rono revealed that the government is currently working on developing a Government Legislative Agenda (GLA) document. The GLA will outline and prioritize the administration’s policy and legislative initiatives over the next five years. This strategic plan will be instrumental in shaping the nation’s development priorities and ensuring that they are met within the stipulated timelines.
In her remarks, Rono emphasized the importance of public participation in the policy formation process.
