Tetra Pak has once again demonstrated its leadership in corporate sustainability, securing a spot on the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP) prestigious annual ‘A List’ for climate transparency. This marks the fourth time in five years that the global food processing and packaging company has achieved the top rating, underscoring its commitment to environmental responsibility.
CDP, a renowned non-profit dedicated to promoting corporate climate accountability, evaluated data from over 22,000 companies worldwide. It ranked organizations based on their climate disclosures, tangible actions, and overall environmental leadership. Tetra Pak’s achievement reflects its significant strides in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and advancing sustainability across its value chain.
Tetra Pak’s recognition comes amid growing concerns over climate change, with the World Meteorological Organization warning of record-breaking GHG levels driving extreme weather, rising sea levels, and ice melt. With nearly one-third of global GHG emissions linked to inefficient food systems, the company is leveraging its industry position to drive meaningful change.
A key element of Tetra Pak’s climate action strategy is its commitment to achieving net-zero GHG emissions across its entire value chain (Scopes 1, 2, and 3) by 2050. By 2023, the company had already reduced its total absolute GHG emissions by 20% compared to its 2019 baseline. Notably, it achieved a 47% reduction in emissions from its own operations, a 21% cut in upstream emissions, and a 17% reduction in downstream emissions.
Tetra Pak’s dedication to sustainability extends beyond carbon reduction. The company also received an ‘A-’ rating in both forest protection and water security, reinforcing its position as an industry leader in environmental responsibility. CDP scores companies on their climate, deforestation, and water security disclosures, with ratings ranging from ‘A’ (leadership) to ‘D-’ (disclosure gaps) and ‘F’ for non-disclosure.
Francesca Priora, Vice President of Climate & Nature at Tetra Pak, emphasized the importance of transparency in environmental action. She highlighted that CDP’s assessments help drive corporate accountability and continuous improvement in sustainability efforts. As CDP refines its scoring criteria to align with scientific advancements and stakeholder expectations, Tetra Pak’s consistent ranking on the ‘A List’ underscores its ongoing commitment to environmental leadership.
By maintaining transparency and innovation in sustainability, Tetra Pak is not only reducing its carbon footprint but also setting a benchmark for the industry. Its continued success proves that corporate responsibility and environmental progress can go hand in hand, paving the way for a more sustainable future
