A tragic incident occurred in the Kibish area of Turkana County, where a fisherman was found dead after a gun attack. The body of Nakale Keyia, who had been shot multiple times, was discovered along the shores of Lake Turkana, long after the attack took place. According to the police, the assailants were suspected to be Dassnach raiders, a group that has been involved in various conflicts in the region. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing. The incident has heightened fears of retaliation in the area, adding to the already tense security situation.
The discovery of Keyia’s body marks another violent episode in the volatile region, where resource-based conflicts and raids by rival communities often lead to loss of life and property. Local authorities have moved the body to the mortuary, where it will undergo an autopsy as part of the investigation into the cause of death. With Turkana County already dealing with insecurity and ethnic tensions, the killing has raised concerns about the potential for further violence.
This murder comes on the heels of other security-related incidents in the region. In Kakuma, a man was arrested by police after an AK47 rifle was found in his possession during a routine operation. The suspect, identified as a robbery suspect, was linked to a motorcycle theft that had occurred earlier in June 2024. According to reports, the victim had spotted the suspect and attempted to confront him. However, the suspect attempted to flee but was quickly captured by the public and handed over to the authorities.
The police investigation into the suspect’s activities led them to Natila village, where a stolen motorcycle was recovered. Further interrogation revealed the presence of an AK47 rifle and 13 rounds of ammunition in the suspect’s possession. The suspect is now expected to face charges related to robbery with violence, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against crime in the area.
While the security forces work to curb the rising incidents of violence in Turkana, another robbery incident occurred in Naivasha, highlighting the growing criminal activities across the country. In this case, a lorry driver was attacked and robbed after completing a delivery of potatoes from Eldoret to Marikiti in Nairobi. The driver was approached by a new customer who claimed to have a shipment of carrots that needed to be delivered to Eldoret. However, upon arrival at Inungi, the situation turned violent as the customer and two accomplices turned on the driver.
The three men ambushed the driver, tied him up, and stole his mobile phone, as well as Sh3,750 in cash. They then took off with the lorry, leaving the driver bound and stranded in the Kinungi area at midnight. Fortunately, the driver managed to free himself and report the incident to the police, who have since launched an investigation into the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle. Authorities are working to track down the suspects and recover the lorry.
These incidents underscore the rising insecurity in various parts of Kenya, particularly in regions such as Turkana and Naivasha, where both robbery and ethnic-related violence continue to pose significant threats to the safety of local residents. With law enforcement agencies engaged in ongoing operations to address these issues, there are calls for more proactive measures to protect citizens and prevent the further escalation of crime in these areas.
As the investigations into these crimes continue, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The situation in Turkana, Naivasha, and other areas remains precarious, with locals and law enforcement working together to maintain peace and restore order amid growing security challenges.
