The family of former Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi confirmed his death on Wednesday, revealing that he succumbed to cardiac arrest while traveling in Nakuru. Mulomi, who served as the second deputy governor of Busia from 2017 to 2022, passed away suddenly, leaving family, friends, and colleagues in shock.
A postmortem conducted on Friday morning confirmed that Mulomi died of cardiac arrest, a medical condition where the heart suddenly stops beating, leading to the cessation of blood flow to vital organs. Lack of blood flow can cause unconsciousness and, if not treated immediately, can result in death. His family described the process of preserving his body at Umash Funeral Home in Nakuru and expressed relief after the autopsy confirmed the cause of death.
Mulomi’s death has left a significant void, especially within his family. According to his brother, Mulomi played a pivotal role in their lives, stepping in as a foster parent after their parents passed away 25 years ago. His commitment and sacrifice towards the extended family were deeply appreciated. The brother described Mulomi as more of a parent than an elder sibling, highlighting the care and support he provided throughout his life.
Mulomi had a long and distinguished career in public service. He served as the deputy governor of Busia under Governor Sospeter Ojaamong from 2017 to 2022. His leadership and humility earned him the respect of many, including fellow political figures. Kakamega Governor Ferdinand Barasa and Busia Governor Paul Otuoma both sent their condolences, praising Mulomi’s dedication and commitment to public service. Barasa described Mulomi as a professional who made a lasting impact on the people he served, particularly through his down-to-earth approach to addressing their challenges.
In the 2022 general elections, Mulomi contested the Busia gubernatorial seat under the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) ticket but lost to Otuoma. Despite this, his contributions to the development of Busia were widely recognized. His sudden passing has left many mourning the loss of a leader who was deeply committed to serving his community.
As burial arrangements continue, Mulomi’s body will be transported to Lifecare Hospital in Bungoma for preservation. His family remains grateful for the support they have received from well-wishers during this difficult time. The late Mulomi will be remembered not only for his public service but also for his loving and nurturing role within his family.
