Police in Kapsabet have arrested former nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Carren Atieno Muga, whose child is the prime suspect in a shocking murder in Chemase, Nandi County. The murder, allegedly tied to an organ trafficking ring, involved the brutal killing of Enock Kipsang, whose body was found mutilated, including beheading and the removal of his private parts.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), Muga was apprehended along the Chemelil-Miwani-Kisumu road as she attempted to flee her home to escape an enraged public. Her vehicle has since been impounded at Kapsabet Police Station as investigations continue.
This arrest comes amidst a violent public reaction to the case. Earlier in the week, a mob stormed Chemase Police Post, forcibly freed a murder suspect, Victor Kimutai, and executed street justice by stoning him to death and burning his body. Kimutai, aged 30, was initially arrested in connection to Kipsang’s gruesome murder and had reportedly confessed to the crime. He even led investigators to the site where Kipsang’s severed head and other body parts were hidden.
The police are now pursuing other suspects believed to be involved in the heinous crime. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and fear in the local community, with concerns about a possible organ harvesting syndicate operating in the region.
Adding to the chaotic scene, the NPS reported the theft of both the National and Kenya Police Service flags during the mob invasion of the police post. The flags were later recovered by officers patrolling Chepswerta Market.
Tinderet Police Commander Johnson Mwariga confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the criminal network and ensure justice for the victim’s family.
As the case unfolds, authorities are urging the public to remain calm and allow due process, even as the manhunt for the remaining suspects intensifies. This tragic incident has spotlighted the urgent need for enhanced security and community vigilance to address rising crime rates.
