Their alliance is already gaining traction, with a technical committee formed to explore the logistics and framework of this partnership. Each leader has appointed four members to the committee, working in secret to fine-tune the details of the new political movement. The alliance is expected to bring together Gachagua, Kalonzo, DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, and other disillusioned Azimio leaders, marking a shift from traditional political alignments.
The timing of this coalition’s emergence is crucial. With Raila Odinga focusing on his bid for the African Union Commission chairperson, Gachagua and Kalonzo are intensifying their political activities. Their plans are not only aimed at challenging Ruto’s government but also at creating a strong political machine to make Ruto a one-term president.
Gachagua, still a dominant figure in the Mt Kenya region, has been working on strengthening his base. He has engaged with religious leaders, business figures, and professionals, ensuring his relevance despite being sidelined by the ruling UDA party. His strategy includes participating in church services and funerals across Mount Kenya to maintain visibility and respond to critics.
Meanwhile, Kalonzo, alongside his allies, is also positioning himself for a larger political role, potentially forming a new political outfit that could surpass Azimio in size and influence. This new vehicle will be inclusive, aiming to unite Kenyans from diverse regions, including those from Mt Kenya, in the bid for a transformative government.
