President William Ruto recently turned heads with a playful response to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s light-hearted jab about his affectionate behaviour towards First Lady Rachel Ruto during their U.S. state visit.
“Your Excellency, let me be honest. Your U.S. trip has set quite a high bar for husbands across Kenya,” Gachagua joked, highlighting how many Kenyan wives were now expecting similar romantic gestures from their spouses.
Upon Ruto’s return to Kenya, DP Gachagua humorously noted that balance had been restored, pointing out that President Ruto hadn’t held Rachel’s hand that morning.
“As we welcomed you from your car to the boardroom, you were walking briskly with me, while Mama Rachel was trying to keep up. That was just an American thing,” Gachagua remarked, causing laughter among the attendees.
DP Gachagua also promised his wife that he would display similar affection if given an assignment in the U.S. He cheekily added that this matter would be a hot topic at the next “Men’s Conference,” suggesting President Ruto had a case to answer.
The Men’s Conference in Kenya is a fictional event humorously depicted as a gathering where men discuss maintaining their independence in relationships. It’s typically referenced around Valentine’s Day as a humorous way for men to dodge the pressures of the holiday.
This playful exchange between President Ruto and DP Gachagua has not only brought a lighthearted moment to the public eye but also sparked widespread amusement and discussion among Kenyans.
