Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is gearing up to launch his political party in early February 2025, a strategic move as he prepares for the 2027 General Elections. This move comes amid growing pressure from his allies to solidify his influence, particularly in his Mount Kenya stronghold, which has become increasingly restless since his departure from the deputy presidency.
Gachagua’s plans have been confirmed by several of his close allies. Former Laikipia Woman Representative, Catherine Waruguru, shared that the new political vehicle will feature blue as one of its corporate colors, hinting at the party’s distinct identity. “We are ready, and the party will be unveiled next month,” Waruguru said, signaling a major political shift in the region.
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya also confirmed that the launch is imminent, promising a party that will “shake the country’s political landscape.” Gakuya indicated that Gachagua is gearing up to assert his presence in national politics and consolidate his influence, particularly in the Mount Kenya region, a key battleground in Kenya’s political scene.
As Gachagua prepares for the unveiling, questions remain about whether he will acquire an existing party or introduce a new one. Recently, the Office of the Political Parties Registrar issued provisional registration certificates to several parties seeking full registration ahead of the 2027 elections, suggesting that Gachagua’s options are open.
In a recent church service in Laikipia County, Gachagua revealed that he will make a formal announcement regarding his party’s launch in the coming weeks. “In two weeks, I will give you direction and will do it in a live television interview. Currently, I am still consulting, but early next month I will make a pronouncement,” he stated, leaving the public eagerly anticipating the move.
The former DP has already begun to meet with aspirants eyeing elective seats under his soon-to-be-unveiled party, positioning himself as a powerful political player in the upcoming elections. His home, the Wamunyoro Residence, has become a hub for political activities, with numerous politicians seeking his endorsement as they prepare for the 2027 polls.
Gachagua’s decision to launch his own party signifies a new chapter in his political career, one where he aims to cement his role in Kenya’s political future. His efforts to mobilize support within Mount Kenya will be crucial, as the region’s political dynamics continue to evolve in the wake of his removal from office. With the 2027 elections drawing closer, all eyes will be on Gachagua as he navigates the complex political landscape.
