Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Generation Z to actively participate in shaping Kenya’s future by registering as voters. Speaking on Saturday in Kirinyaga, Gachagua emphasized the importance of voting as the ultimate tool for transforming the nation, urging the younger generation to move beyond social media activism to make their voices heard at the ballot box.
“What you are doing on social media is good but not enough; the actual transformation of this great republic will be on the ballot,” Gachagua said. “The public awareness transformation using the smartphone is good, but the real and final transformation of getting a good country with good leaders will be on the ballot.”
He appealed to Gen Z to embrace their patriotic duty by obtaining national identification cards and registering as voters, asserting that their participation would complete the journey of liberation for the country.
During his visit to Kirinyaga, Gachagua also met with Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua at her home, marking what he described as a pivotal moment for unity and collaboration. The former DP expressed optimism about working with Karua, citing her extensive political experience and commitment to the nation’s welfare as invaluable assets.
“We have had a good conversation with Karua and have agreed to work together with other Kenyans going forward. Many Kenyans are looking for leadership, and I want to assure them that we will collaborate with like-minded patriots who care for this country,” Gachagua stated.
He acknowledged Karua’s courage and dedication to the Mt. Kenya region and beyond, pledging to consult her regularly alongside other leaders of goodwill to advance the nation’s interests.
Karua echoed Gachagua’s sentiments, describing the day as a significant step toward uniting and liberating Kenya. She highlighted the importance of accountability and collective effort in addressing the challenges facing the country.
“Today is a great day. We have joined hands with my brother Gachagua, and a journey of uniting and liberating Kenya has begun,” Karua said. “We are going to join with people from different regions and areas in the country to demand accountability and work toward a better future.”
The rare show of unity between the two leaders underscores the growing calls for collaboration across political divides to address Kenya’s pressing socio-economic and political challenges. Their combined efforts are expected to inspire greater voter participation, particularly among the youth, who hold the key to the nation’s transformation.
