President William Ruto has announced a Ksh4 billion investment to overhaul Nairobi’s road infrastructure. Speaking during a church service at the United Pentecostal Church of Kenya in Dagoretti North on Sunday, he emphasized the government’s commitment to constructing new and rehabilitating old feeder roads to enhance mobility in the capital city.
The President assured residents that stalled road projects initiated by the defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) will be completed. “We will pick them all up, finish them, and add more so that Nairobi can be the city we will all be proud to live in,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of Nairobi’s development to Kenya’s overall progress, President Ruto expressed concern over the city’s current state, terming it untenable. He pledged to restore the Nairobi River to its pristine condition within two years, with final preparations for the clean-up contract underway.
Additionally, the President revealed plans to officially commission the Northern Collector Tunnel, which is expected to provide an additional 140,000 cubic meters of water daily to Nairobi estates.
On education, the National Government will allocate Ksh1 billion in the next financial year to build more classrooms in Nairobi, complementing the Ksh1 billion allocated this year for 5,000 classrooms. The President also disclosed that he is personally funding the construction of 100 classrooms in Nairobi, including at Nairobi School, State House Girls, Lenana School, and Jamhuri High School.
“The education of Nairobi’s children is a priority for me,” he affirmed.
During his visit, President Ruto inspected ongoing projects at Nairobi School, including a science complex, two dormitories, and eight classrooms. He commended recent reforms and investments in education, noting that the 2024 KCSE results showed marked improvement compared to the previous year.
The President reiterated his mission to transform Kenya despite criticism, highlighting the economy’s recovery through reduced inflation, lower interest rates, and a stable exchange rate.
He also urged the nation to pray for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission Chairperson post, noting its potential to elevate Kenya’s global standing.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, MPs, and MCAs attended the event.
