Governor Fatuma Achani of Kwale County has reaffirmed her commitment to improving early childhood education with the commissioning of the Chigombero C Kwashasha Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centre in Mwavumbo Ward, Kinango Sub-county. This initiative marks another milestone in her administration’s efforts to lay a solid educational foundation for young learners.
During the launch, Governor Achani emphasized that quality education is a fundamental tool for combating poverty and enhancing livelihoods in Kwale County. “The only aspect we can use to uplift ourselves is by ensuring quality education in our county. This has to start from the ground level,” she stated, underlining her administration’s strategy to prioritize early childhood education as a cornerstone for societal development.
The newly inaugurated ECDE centre is part of a broader initiative under Achani’s leadership to provide accessible, high-quality learning facilities. Her administration has overseen the construction of numerous ECDE centres across the county, alongside implementing a porridge school feeding program aimed at boosting attendance and nutrition for young learners. In addition, the county government has equipped schools with critical infrastructure, including classrooms, desks, and water tanks.
Achani also highlighted the collaborative approach adopted by her administration, partnering with non-governmental organizations and private entities to support education through bursary programs and sponsorships. These initiatives target bright but needy students, enabling them to access secondary and tertiary education opportunities.
“Education is the bridge to a better future. With it, we can eradicate poverty, improve living standards, and secure the future of our children and generations to come,” Achani affirmed. Her vision aligns with her administration’s broader agenda of addressing societal challenges through strategic investments in education.
Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo echoed Achani’s sentiments during the event, emphasizing the importance of unity among leaders for the county’s progress. “For us to prosper, we have to come together as leaders. In Kwale, we speak with one voice for the development agenda of our citizens,” Kombo said.
The Chigombero C Kwashasha ECDE centre stands as a testament to Kwale County’s holistic development approach, integrating education as a pivotal element in its socio-economic transformation. Through these efforts, Governor Achani’s administration continues to empower communities, instilling hope for a brighter future in the county’s youngest generation.
