Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has announced a cabinet reshuffle, with several County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) taking on expanded roles. The changes, announced earlier this week, reflect the governor’s intent to streamline operations and address critical service areas in the county.
Samson Ojwang’, who retains his position as the CECM for Health Services and Sanitation, has been entrusted with additional responsibilities as the acting CECM for Public Service Management. This move highlights the county’s focus on improving health systems while ensuring effective management of public service operations.
Chanelle Kittony, the CECM for Roads and Public Works, has also been assigned the Gender, Youth, Sports, and Culture docket. This dual role is seen as a strategic step toward integrating infrastructure development with youth and cultural programs to foster holistic community growth.
Meanwhile, Pepela Wanjala, the CECM for Finance and Economic Planning, will act as the CECM for Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change. His additional role underscores the county’s growing emphasis on sustainable development and environmental conservation.
Agriculture remains a key priority for the county, with Phanice Khatundi retaining her Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock, and Fisheries docket. She will also serve in an acting capacity as the CECM for Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development, reinforcing the interconnection between agricultural development and land use planning.
Patrick Gacheru continues as the Trade and Industrialization CECM, reflecting stability in the county’s industrial growth strategy.
In a controversial decision, Governor Natembeya retained Janerose Mutama in his cabinet despite her impeachment by the County Assembly of Trans Nzoia. Mutama was moved from Lands and Housing to head the Education and Vocational Training docket, signaling Natembeya’s confidence in her leadership despite political opposition.
This reshuffle comes amid growing public demand for efficient service delivery and accountability in county governance. Governor Natembeya emphasized that these changes are designed to optimize resource allocation and ensure that critical sectors meet the needs of Trans Nzoia residents.
